EXECUTIVE SECRETARY’S REPORT- Bill Stricker
Bill stated that the October 2011 Championship at Swan Point had 73 entrants and was a
great finish to the year - even the A,B,C,D flight closest-to-the-pin winners worked out
without a hitch.
Since last meeting he has received one new application.

June 19 Hunters Oak (club solvency? should know soon)
July 16 Andrews AF Base
August 13 CC of Maryland

all possibilities)
October 22 Chartwell CC
A request for comments and suggestions for improvement to the Free State Seniors Golf
Assn. Along with the 2012 schedule will be emailed to the general membership at the
beginning of the new year.
FS participation was down during 2011 compared to 2010: there were 214 active FS
participants this year (meaning 214 members played at least one tournament this year; 75
members did not play at all).
Bill circulated a card for BOD signatures to Andy Miller to show appreciation for his
generous financial support of the Potomac Challenge.
TREASURER’S REPORT - Tom Burch
Tom distributed and reviewed the financial report through the end of October which will
cover nearly all 2011 expenses. Tom predicts we will end the year with a $2215 negative
balance when the last expenses are paid. Yearly expenses were under budget; the negative
balance was due to a shortage in anticipated membership dues.
The Treasurer’s report was accepted by the board following B. Hoffman’s move to
approve and J. Morea’s second.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
GOLF COMMITTEE - Chairman, Bill Hoffman
Mostly positive comments were heard from the membership for the Swan Point
tournament - the course was generally in good condition, although a number of
members commented about the difficult carries over the marsh/water on holes 11,12,&13.
Bill H. reported on Swan Point score postings. Of the 18 winners, 16 entered their
scores in an acceptable time following the tournament (88%). Overall postings for
the seven tournaments in 2012 was also 88%. The reminders to our delinquent
tournament winners have worked well during the year.
Bill also provided the statistics for the seven 2011 Free State tournaments, with the
number of participants ranging from 73 to 104 which was an average of 84, down
slightly from the average of 93 in 2010.
Bill thanked his golf committee members (and others) who have volunteered to
help with set-up/check-in, scoring and the birdie pool during the seven tournaments
this year.
PLANNING COMMITTEE - Chairman, Dick Moore
No report.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE - Chairman, Jim Garner
No further inputs - see Stricker input above.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE - Chairman, Cliff Valliant
C Four new board members were elected for the 2012-2014 term; Dave Bussey
(Wakefield Valley) and Dick Mikulski (Sparrows Point) representing Division I
and Barry Andrews (Naval Academy) and Tom Tarpley (Holly Hills) representing
Division II. 132 members submitted their ballot. Cliff, his nominating committee
and the entire board want to thank all nominees for their participation and look
forward to your service in the future.
DISTINGUISHED SENIORS COMMITTEE - Chairman, Joe Morea
Joe was able to surprise Bill Matton with a well-deserved 2011 Free State Senior
Golf Assn. Distinguished Senior Award Annual Meeting at Swan Point.
FSSGAM Match Play Championship Wally Engle Memorial - Chairman, Bill Matton
No Report (although Mike reminded Bill to recommend a 2012 chairman).
AUDIT COMMITTEE - Chairman, Rick Hunsicker
No Report.
OLD BUSINESS
As a follow up to a New Business item last month regarding the eligibilty of a Free
State member whose amateur status was questioned because he was compensated for a
few golf lessons, B. Matton asked the board if they would consider revising the By-laws
to allow the BOD to rule on such circumstances. Bill then motioned a revision to “Article
I - Membership A. Eligibilty” section of our By-laws addressing the above issue. The
motion was seconded by W. Cardoza and passed unanimously by the board. B. Hoffman
was asked to make the appropriate change to the By-laws and email to all board
members.
B. Stricker asked if the board would agree to support the cost terms of a “100 players
minimum” guarantee for the Lake Presidential contract next May. Since we had 128
playing there last time, the board agreed to take the risk.
NEW BUSINESS
M. Fitzgibbons and the board thanked Jim Garner for his contributions to our board this
year.
C. Valliant, who is leaving the board, thanked the board for their support during his
years on the board, as President and Chairman. Thanks to Cliff for his many years of
office service.
N. Starkey updated the membership flyer with board inputs and would like to finalize for
the December meeting, however, Bill Stricker noted that the schedule must still be
finalized and there is still time after the New Year before the flyer should be distributed.
Thanks to Norm for his work on this since retaining and recruiting members is going to
be critical to the FS organization in the future.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:14 AM. Next meeting BOD will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at
the Rolling Road CC at 10:00 AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Rick Hunsicker, Secretary
